The Nuhu Ribadu security performance has drawn international commendation, with US-based legal practitioner Christmas Akpodiete highlighting measurable progress in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations, kidnapping response, and institutional modernization under the National Security Adviser’s coordinated framework since June 2023.
Akpodiete publicly praised Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for delivering what he described as “exceptional performance” in addressing the country’s complex security landscape, citing data-driven results in counter-terrorism, anti-kidnapping operations, and systemic reforms.
Christmas Akpodiete, in a detailed statement, noted that Ribadu’s leadership since his June 2023 appointment has pivoted Nigeria’s security strategy toward intelligence-led operations and a unified national framework—integrating military action, policy innovation, and global partnerships to enhance operational effectiveness.
According to Akpodiete, security forces operating under Ribadu’s coordination have neutralized more than 13,500 terrorist and criminal elements, while arresting over 17,000 suspects as of mid-2025. He emphasized the strategic elimination of high-profile bandit leaders—including Kachalla Halilu Sububu and Boderi Isyaku—as a critical breakthrough in disrupting criminal networks, particularly across Nigeria’s North-West region.
While speaking on the critical issue of abduction, Akpodiete pointed to “remarkable operational success,” citing the rescue of thousands of victims. He highlighted the high-profile recovery of over 130 school children in Kuriga, Kaduna State, and noted that the establishment of a Multi-Agency Kidnap Fusion Cell has streamlined inter-agency response, achieving reported success rates of up to 80%.
The legal practitioner also commended Ribadu’s investment in Nigeria’s digital defense infrastructure, including the operationalization of the National Cyber Crime Centre and ongoing digitalization of petition and investigation workflows at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)—initiatives aimed at boosting transparency and processing efficiency.
In the economic security domain, Akpodiete noted that Ribadu has reclassified oil theft, illicit financial flows, and currency speculation as core national security threats. Intensified enforcement actions in the Niger Delta, he added, have contributed to curbing large-scale crude oil diversion—a critical win for Nigeria’s fiscal stability.
Akpodiete further highlighted the deepening of Nigeria’s security cooperation with the United States, noting that the Nigeria–US Working Group on security has transitioned from dialogue to actionable joint operations in counter-terrorism.
This external validation aligns with domestic recognition: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has publicly described Ribadu as “honest, bold and courageous,” expressing strong confidence in his stewardship of Nigeria’s security architecture.
Security analysts have similarly credited the NSA with strengthening collaboration among the military, police, and intelligence agencies, while introducing integrity-focused reforms that have boosted morale among frontline personnel.
Akpodiete concluded by urging continued political and institutional support for the current security leadership, stressing that consistency in reform implementation and multi-stakeholder collaboration remains essential to consolidating recent gains and advancing long-term stability.
As Nigeria navigates a complex security environment, the Nuhu Ribadu security performance represents a case study in adaptive, intelligence-driven governance—with implications for investment climate, regional stability, and institutional credibility across Africa’s largest economy.
