Miss Bayelsa, Tamunosoye Karibi George, has been crowned Miss World Nigeria 2026, emerging victorious at the grand finale of the national pageant held on Saturday in Lagos. The new queen will go on to represent Nigeria at the global Miss World competition later this year. The event, organised by the Silverbird Group, attracted contestants from across the country and showcased the growing commercial value of the beauty and entertainment industry in Nigeria. The pageant has increasingly positioned itself as a platform for youth empowerment, leadership development, brand partnerships and tourism promotion.
Tamunosoye Karibi George, who represented Bayelsa State in the competition, impressed judges with her poise, intelligence and commitment to social impact, securing the coveted crown ahead of contestants from other states. Miss Anambra emerged first runner-up, while Miss Edo was named second runner-up.
Speaking ahead of the finale, Guy Murray-Bruce, President of Silverbird Group and National Director of Miss World Nigeria, stressed that the competition extends beyond physical beauty.According to him, organisers were searching for a candidate capable of serving as a global ambassador and embodying the Miss World “Beauty With a Purpose” philosophy through intelligence, confidence and meaningful contributions to society.
The pageant has evolved into a significant platform for corporate sponsorships, fashion, hospitality and media engagement. Industry stakeholders note that events such as Miss World Nigeria generate economic activity for designers, makeup artists, event managers, photographers, hospitality operators and other players within the creative economy. This year’s edition featured weeks of grooming, talent showcases, sports challenges and fashion presentations designed to prepare contestants for national and international responsibilities. Organisers said the programme continues to provide young Nigerian women with opportunities to develop leadership skills, build confidence and gain exposure on global platforms.
With her victory, Tamunosoye Karibi George now assumes the responsibility of representing Nigeria at the next edition of the Miss World 2026, where she will compete alongside contestants from countries around the world. Her emergence also adds another chapter to Bayelsa State’s rich history in Nigerian pageantry, further highlighting the state’s continued contribution to the country’s beauty and creative industries.
