Stakeholders in the construction industry have identified the poor adoption of modern technologies by professionals as a significant factor hindering the sector’s growth.
According to industry experts, about 75 percent of professionals in the industry are lagging behind in technology adoption. This has led to inefficiencies, increased costs, and delays in projects.
Speaking at the 4th edition of Big 5 Construct Nigeria, hosted by DMG in Lagos recently, Enianu Eniafe, a project manager at ENCON Sharon Engineering Services, urged professionals to address the existing knowledge gap within the industry. He emphasized the importance of adopting technologies like Building Information Modeling (BIM) to improve project management and reduce rework.
Similarly, Toye Eniola, Executive Secretary of the Association of Housing Corporation of Nigeria, highlighted the need for technology adoption to modernize the building sector in Nigeria. He criticized the government’s lack of action in this area due to corruption.
Dr Oluremi Olukoya, Group Chief Executive Officer of Pecksgrey Group, stressed the importance of embracing technology and bringing in consultants to assist with its deployment. He emphasized that technology can significantly improve efficiency and productivity in the construction industry.
Ben Greenish, Executive Vice President of DMG Events, highlighted the immense potential of the Nigerian construction industry due to the country’s rapidly growing population. He emphasized the need for the industry to embrace technology to meet the increasing demand for housing and infrastructure.
