Rwanda has set its sights on Ogun State, Nigeria, as a potential partner for economic and educational development. This interest was conveyed by Christophe Bazivamo, Rwandan Ambassador to Nigeria, during a meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta.
Ambassador Bazivamo acknowledged Ogun State’s achievements in both industrialization and education, pinpointing these areas as drivers for a mutually beneficial partnership.
Collaboration on the Horizon
The discussions explored fostering connections between Rwandan businesses and the Ogun State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture. This collaboration would focus on trade, knowledge exchange, and establishing a sustainable economic partnership.
This initiative aligns with the vision of the African Continental Trade Area (AfCFTA) which promotes regional cooperation and economic integration within Africa.
Learning from Local Success
Ogun State’s emphasis on local production particularly impressed Ambassador Bazivamo. He sees potential for Rwandan businesses to learn from Ogun State’s successful models and adapt them for their own country’s growth.
The actualization of this partnership hinges on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) being signed, building upon the existing Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation between Rwanda and Nigeria.

Rwanda’s interest in Ogun State highlights the potential for African nations to achieve shared economic prosperity through collaboration. By capitalizing on each other’s strengths and fostering knowledge exchange, both countries can pave the way for a brighter future, especially for their young populations.
