0

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reiterated its readiness for the NIN-SIM linkage deadline of September 14, 2024, despite concerns raised by subscribers regarding slow speeds and congestion on the NIMC portal.

In response to anxieties expressed by the National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) President, Adeolu Ogunbanjo, NIMC maintains that its systems for NIN enrolment, verification, authentication, and data modification are functioning smoothly across all enrolment centres nationwide and abroad.

NIMC also highlighted the availability of the self-service portal for NIN data modification and encouraged users to visit the NIMC website for further information on enrolment centres and other queries.

Key Points:

  • NIMC assures smooth operation of NIN-SIM linkage systems despite subscriber concerns.
  • NATCOMS President expresses worries about slow speeds and potential for missing the deadline.
  • NIMC emphasizes continued free NIN enrolment and zero tolerance for extortion.
  • Over 153 million SIMs already linked, but challenges persist for remaining users.

Subscriber Concerns:

  • Slow speeds and congestion on the NIMC portal may hinder timely completion of NIN-SIM linkage.
  • Only 96% compliance achieved so far, leaving 4% potentially disconnected after the deadline.

Reassurances from NIMC:

  • All services, including enrolment, verification, and data modification, are functioning optimally.
  • Free NIN enrolment remains available.
  • Measures are in place to address extortion and unethical practices.

The upcoming deadline has caused some anxiety among subscribers, particularly those facing difficulties with the online portal. NIMC’s assurances aim to alleviate these concerns and encourage users to complete the NIN-SIM linkage process before September 14th.
