The Federal Government has granted a “Licence to Construct” to UTM Offshore Limited for the development of a 2.8 million tonnes per annum Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s gas industry.
The project aligns with the government’s Decade of Gas Initiative, which aims to boost gas production, distribution, and utilization. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, hailed the project as a reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s vision to transform the country’s energy sector.
The floating facility, to be constructed offshore, is a crucial component of Nigeria’s ambitious gas expansion plans. Ekpo reiterated the administration’s commitment to making gas a key driver of the Nigerian economy by 2030.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) was commended for its diligence in granting the license, while UTM leadership was praised for spearheading the initiative. The Federal Government assured UTM of its unwavering support for the successful completion of the FLNG facility.
The project is expected to enhance Nigeria’s capacity to export LNG, create jobs, and solidify the country’s position as a key energy supplier. This development marks a significant step in Nigeria’s journey to becoming a global player in the gas industry.
