The Lagos State Sports Commission has introduced a new fitness program called the “Lagos Active Challenge” to encourage residents to adopt healthier lifestyles. The pilot edition of the challenge took place at five locations across the state: Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Adekunle Ifako-Ijaiye, Isolo, and Obanikoro.
The initiative aims to capitalize on the growing awareness of the benefits of exercise and its positive impact on overall health. According to Lekan Fatodu, the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, participating in physical activities can reduce healthcare costs and improve the well-being of citizens.
“By engaging in aerobics, we are actually reducing health costs and taking a significant population away from hospitals,” Fatodu said. “As a government, we acknowledge the importance of physical exercises and their impact on socio-economic advancement and development of the state.”
Participants in the challenge expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative and the positive effects of exercise on their lives. Abraham Abiodun and Hannah Oregwe both praised the program and thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for promoting citizens’ well-being through physical activities.
The LSSC boss emphasized that promoting the “Lagos Active Challenge” is a shared responsibility and urged all Lagosians to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
