Greenplinth Africa has introduced a groundbreaking clean cookstove technology aimed at revolutionizing cooking practices in Nigeria. This innovative solution is designed to benefit 80 million women and households across the country, significantly reducing their reliance on traditional firewood.
The project, launched in Lagos, involves the free distribution of 80 million highly efficient improved fuel woodstoves. This initiative is registered with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Global Climate Action Portal.
The clean cookstoves are designed to reduce traditional firewood consumption by over 90%, leading to environmental benefits and improved air quality. The project aims to enhance the health and well-being of women and children, who are often disproportionately affected by indoor air pollution caused by traditional cooking methods. By providing clean cookstoves free of charge, Greenplinth Africa is empowering women and households to save time and money on fuel costs.
The 80M Clean Cookstoves Project is unique in several ways. It is the largest single clean cookstove project worldwide, and the cookstoves will be provided at no cost to beneficiaries. Additionally, the project includes innovative tree planting and nurturing initiatives to address poverty, hunger, and diseases.
More than 950 million Africans lack access to clean cooking, and over 180 million of them reside in Nigeria. The 80M Clean Cookstoves Project has the potential to significantly improve the lives of millions of Nigerians by providing them with clean and efficient cooking solutions.
The Lagos State Government has expressed its support for the project, recognizing the potential of green initiatives to generate revenue and transform the economy. Titilayo Oshodi, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, emphasized the opportunities created by a green economy for businesses, commerce, and finance.
Greenplinth Africa’s ambitious project represents a significant step towards addressing the pressing issue of access to clean cooking in Nigeria. By providing efficient cookstoves and promoting sustainable practices, the company aims to improve the lives of millions of people and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.
