The Nigerian U-17 national team, the Golden Eaglets, were held to a 1-1 draw by Miracle Academy from Abia State in a friendly match played on Wednesday at the FIFA Goal Project pitch inside the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
This match served as part of the Eaglets’ preparation for their upcoming WAFU B U-17 Cup of Nations title defense tournament scheduled for next month in Ghana. The Eaglets will be placed in Group B, facing off against Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Togo.
Miracle Academy surprised the Eaglets with a goal against the run of play, but the national team responded quickly, equalizing just a few minutes later to ensure a 1-1 scoreline at halftime. Coach Manu Garba’s team dominated the second half but couldn’t capitalize on their numerous scoring opportunities.
This 1-1 draw marks the second consecutive draw for the Golden Eaglets in their pre-tournament friendlies. Previously, they were held to a similar score by Ikon Allah Academy, a team based in Kaduna, on Tuesday.
In total, the five-time U-17 World Cup champions have played three warm-up matches, recording one win, two draws, with a total of six goals scored and four conceded.
