FinTribe, a women-led wealth platform founded in Lagos, Nigeria, has emerged as one of Africa’s most impactful financial empowerment movements, empowering over 500,000 women across 35 countries to save, invest, and build long-term assets.
Launched in 2021 by Jennifer Awirigwe, FinTribe combines financial education, accessible savings and investment tools, and a strong community-driven approach to tackle the gender gap in wealth creation.
“Over 80% of African women are financially illiterate, and that reality broke me,” Awirigwe shared. “I wanted to build what I wish existed for my younger self: a safe community where women could learn, save, and invest confidently.”
What began as a small digital campaign has evolved into the continent’s largest women-focused financial empowerment initiative. “Today, our community spans over 500,000 women across 35 countries — a clear sign of how deeply women need safe spaces to build wealth together,” she said.
In under three years, FinTribe has helped women collectively save and invest over $4 million. Its flagship Wealth Builders Academy has graduated more than 4,000 students, while its annual Finance Fair has become Africa’s largest financial event for women, attracting over 12,000 attendees in its past two editions.
A major milestone includes the launch of FinTribe Estate, a real estate initiative that has enabled nearly 100 women to become property owners — many for the first time. “For women who once thought land ownership was out of reach, this turned dreams into reality and redefined what financial empowerment truly means,” Awirigwe said.
The platform offers goal-based savings tools, vetted investment opportunities, and mentorship programmes, prioritising financial transformation over transactional engagement. Built on trust, accountability, and peer support, FinTribe stands out in a fintech landscape often focused solely on digital access.
Its impact has earned numerous accolades, including the 2023 Eloy Award for Financial Coach of the Year, the 2024 Techy Accountant’s Financial Education Champion of the Year, and a 2025 inclusion in the Most Influential People of African Descent in Finance and Capital. Awirigwe has also been named among the Top 100 Women in Finance by Leading Ladies Africa.
Based in Lagos, FinTribe plans to expand into Ghana and Uganda soon, with a long-term vision of managing $20 million in assets by 2030. The platform also runs outreach programmes for female university students, offering mentorship, financial literacy training, and seed funding to foster early wealth-building.
“Our mission is to democratise wealth-building for women,” Awirigwe affirmed. “FinTribe is not just a finance platform; it’s a movement. We’re rewriting the financial story of African women, one savings plan, one investment, one empowered woman at a time.”
