The European Union has awarded a €300,000 grant to the European Chamber of Commerce (Eurocham) Nigeria to strengthen its secretariat, enhance advocacy efforts, and deepen engagement with key stakeholders over the next three years.¹ This significant financial contribution underscores the EU’s commitment to fostering strong economic and commercial ties with Nigeria.
According to EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, the grant will enable Eurocham to strengthen its administrative capacity, expand external activities, and advocacy work on behalf of its members. This, in turn, will create a more conducive business environment, promoting trade and investment between Europe and Nigeria.
The EU’s intervention aims to reinforce Eurocham’s role in policy dialogue and strategic engagement with local governments, policymakers, and business stakeholders. By building on existing achievements, the EU hopes to pave the way for greater opportunities in key areas like trade, investment, and infrastructure development.
The grant is also linked to the broader EU Global Gateway Strategy, a four-year initiative aimed at improving infrastructure in Nigeria and other African countries. Nigeria will feature prominently in the investment package, covering areas such as digital skills, e-governance, and the deployment of 90,000 km of fibre-optic cables across the country.
With this grant, the EU reaffirms its position as Nigeria’s largest trading partner and a key source of foreign direct investment and development financing. As Mignot noted, “By building on what has been achieved so far, we pave the way for even greater opportunities in key areas like trade, investment, and infrastructure development”.
