The Central Securities Clearing System PLC (CSCS) is set to host the annual conference of the Africa and Middle East Depositories Association (AMEDA) in Lagos. The event, themed ‘Shaping the Future: Financial Markets & Infrastructures as Catalysts for Transforming Economies,’ will bring together key stakeholders to discuss the role of financial markets in driving economic growth and innovation.
As Nigeria’s central depository for equities, commercial papers, corporate bonds, sub-national bonds, sovereign bonds, equity-traded funds, real estate investment trusts, mutual funds, and commodities, CSCS plays a pivotal role in the region’s financial ecosystem. The AMEDA Conference is widely regarded as a premier platform for fostering collaboration among Central Securities Depositories and Clearing Houses across Africa and the Middle East.
Abdulla Jaffar Abdin, President of AMEDA, highlighted the significance of the conference, stating, “The AMEDA Conference has always been a cornerstone for industry knowledge-sharing and fostering cooperation among market infrastructure providers. As we gather in Lagos, we look forward to engaging in productive discussions that will not only shape the future of our industry but also strengthen the financial ecosystems in our respective regions.”
CSCS, one of Africa’s leading capital market infrastructure providers, has been instrumental in advocating for best practices and driving collaboration across financial markets since joining AMEDA. The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CSCS, Haruna Jalo-Waziri, who also serves as the Vice President of AMEDA, emphasized the importance of the conference in fostering innovation and market resilience.
“It is a great honour for CSCS to host the AMEDA Conference 2025 in Lagos. The financial markets in Africa and the Middle East are undergoing rapid transformation, and this event provides a critical platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, explore opportunities, and chart a course for the future. At CSCS, we believe in the power of collaboration to drive sustainable growth, and we are excited to welcome industry leaders from across the region to Nigeria for this landmark event,” Jalo-Waziri said.
The conference will focus on key areas such as regulatory developments, advancements in financial market infrastructure, and the role of emerging technologies in enhancing efficiency and security within the sector. By bringing together industry leaders, regulators, and innovators, the event aims to shape the future of financial markets and infrastructure, positioning them as catalysts for transforming economies across Africa and the Middle East.
As CSCS continues to champion market efficiency, security, and innovation, the 2025 AMEDA Conference in Lagos represents a significant milestone in fostering regional collaboration and driving sustainable economic growth.
