Caverton Marine Teams Up with NNPC and Stena Bulk to Launch Unity Shipping Worldwide

Caverton Marine Limited, a subsidiary of Caverton Offshore Support Group Plc, has partnered with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and Swedish global shipping giant, Stena Bulk, to establish Unity Shipping Worldwide . This landmark joint venture aims to elevate Nigeria’s role in global energy logistics by enhancing NNPC’s shipping operations and expanding the nation’s maritime transportation capabilities.

The agreement was formalized in April 2025 at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, as disclosed in a statement filed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Monday. The collaboration underscores a strategic effort to strengthen Nigeria’s position in the international energy logistics landscape while fostering local content development.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, Bayo Ojulari, emphasized the significance of shipping to Nigeria’s growth strategy. “Shipping is central to our growth strategy, and this venture represents a historic and unprecedented leap forward for NNPC and for Nigeria. This partnership is a critical part of our transformation agenda, helping us diversify and enhance our operations in the maritime sector,” Ojulari stated.

Caverton Marine’s inclusion as the Nigerian partner highlights its expertise in marine and aviation logistics services, particularly within the oil and gas industry. With a strong operational track record serving key clients such as Shell, Chevron, Total, and Nigeria LNG, Caverton brings invaluable local insight and operational depth to the joint venture.

Minister of Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, praised the partnership, noting its alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s focus on local content and industrial reforms. “This venture is a bold step in advancing local content and industrial reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Similarly, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, highlighted the venture’s alignment with the ministry’s goals. “This partnership will help increase Nigeria’s shipping capacity and contribute to economic growth,” Oyetola added, emphasizing the importance of robust private-sector participation in re-establishing Nigeria’s presence in global shipping.
