Antigua and Barbuda PM: Africa Holds Greater Potential Than China if Developed

Gaston Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, believes that Africa has the potential to surpass China in development and global significance if its vast resources are harnessed effectively. During a visit to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Browne expressed his country’s aspiration to see Nigeria become a developed nation within the next two decades.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of establishing stronger ties between the Caribbean and Africa, particularly with Nigeria, to foster trade and investment. He stressed the need for unity and collaboration to bring prosperity to both regions. Mr. Browne expressed Antigua and Barbuda’s readiness to partner with Lagos State and Nigeria in various sectors, including trade and investment.

Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed the prospect of collaboration, highlighting potential areas of partnership such as entertainment, arts, culture, and technology. He envisioned a strong bond between the Caribbean and Africa, emphasizing the shared cultural heritage and economic opportunities.

Air Peace Chairman and CEO, Allen Onyema, who accompanied the Prime Minister, echoed the sentiment that Africa is the next global frontier. He emphasized the need for Africans to take ownership of their continent while welcoming international partnerships.

Mr. Sanwo-Olu further highlighted Lagos’s status as a tech hub in Africa and stressed the importance of technology in driving development. He emphasized the need for Nigeria to shed its “developing country” label and embrace its full potential, drawing inspiration from the successes of China and India.
