Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reiterated the government’s determination to construct roads that will boost trade and commercial activities within the state. Addressing the inauguration of the MCC/Old Express Road in Aba on Sunday, Otti emphasized the administration’s belief in the importance of quality roads for enhancing vehicular movement and fostering a thriving business environment.

He disclosed that contracts have been awarded for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of several economically crucial roads. “We cannot achieve the economic rejuvenation we desire if our essential roads are in poor condition,” he asserted.

Otti proclaimed that the reconstructed road serves as a testament to the government’s comprehensive restoration efforts in Aba and the state at large. He declared, “Aba is open for business,” inviting potential investors to seize the numerous opportunities that Abia offers.

“Our governing philosophy is to create an environment where individuals can fully realize their aspirations,” he explained. “We are also committed to supporting business growth and establishing a safe haven for legitimate, profitable, and sustainable investments.”

Otti reaffirmed the government’s dedication to developing programs and policies that will streamline the creation of optimal investment pathways and partnerships, further enabling the government to better serve the people.

He elaborated that the government has taken measures to permanently address the recurrent flooding issue in Aba. “We are diligently working to reconstruct several other roads in approximately nine LGAs through a special multilateral funding arrangement that paves the way for the state to fix roads and enhance agricultural productivity and produce marketing,” he added.

In his remarks, Chief Jerry Kalu, President of the Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, lauded the government’s rebuilding efforts in Abia. He expressed confidence that the present administration’s reconstruction agenda will significantly contribute to the state’s socio-economic growth.

Earlier, Mr Eric Shen, Director of China Civil Engineering Construction Company, expressed gratitude to the state government and the host community for their support, which was instrumental in the road project’s successful completion. Shen assured that the road was constructed with the highest engineering standards and specifications to withstand the test of time.

He emphasized the road’s significance in propelling socio-economic development and added that it would considerably improve the living standards of residents.

In a related development, Mr Otumchere Oti, the state’s Commissioner for Works, stated that the current administration is committed to transforming the state’s narrative in terms of quality road networks and infrastructure.

Oti highlighted the structural integrity of the newly reconstructed MCC Old Express, Udeagbala, and Umuimo Roads in Aba, which were designed using the best practices in road construction and incorporate street lights and drainage systems. He appealed to residents to refrain from activities that could jeopardize the roads’ serviceability.
